Outside magazine is a great source of information for those of us interested in fitness, outdoor activities and the like. Some of my greatest rainy days reads have been in Outside, and I keep a healthy library of old issues because, well, they don’t really get old – they’re just good.

Outside online is building a nice library of video, too. In checking out one on bike culture in my old ‘hood (Portland, OR), I instantly got a great feel for the city and its people, right down to the gray tone of the about-to-rain weather.

I biked a lot in Portland, and the video brought back memories. But anyone who didn’t have my direct experience would “get” the Portland vibe in a pretty deep way after watching this short video.

When done well, video is a great way to communicate.

“Throughout history, the technology always comes first. It’s just technology for awhile – -until the day we artists inherit it.”

The quote miners have been working overtime since the passing of Steve Jobs. Just when I thought I’d had my fill, this one went across the bow. Simple and powerful, as with all things Jobs:

“The minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something will, you know if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it, you can mold it. That’s maybe the most important thing. It’s to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there and you’re just gonna live in it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it.

I think that’s very important and however you learn that, once you learn it, you’ll want to change life and make it better, cause it’s kind of messed up, in a lot of ways. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

In the words of the Style Council, it’s been a “long hot summer”, with a lot of words but not enough work to keep the creative engine humming. That’s changing in a good way with the arrival of 2 new clients this week. Details soon!

“The universe is made of stories, not atoms,” poet Muriel Rukeyser famously proclaimed.

A few weeks ago I wrote a post called The Founders Legend.

Now, this week, Inc. Magazine, one of my faves, provides us with proof of how critical it is to build, practice, and tell your Founders Legend with “How I Did It: 14 Tales of Unexpected Success

Kaw, I love it when that happens!
